Who Are Ring?
Ring hit our TV screens back in June 2018 with a variety of promotional TV adverts. These TV adverts reassured viewers that the Ring doorbell was the ultimate in criminal deterrence. With many scenarios of owners preventing crime and deterring criminals from carrying out any illegal activity on their property!
The Ring doorbell company is not just a one product company! They have many home surveillance products in the industry and have been trading for many years! So, the Ring Doorbell can back up their profile with many security devices that receive great reviews and feedback from their customers.
The Ring Doorbell Variations
You have an option of four different versions of the Ring Doorbell. The elite is the most expensive retailing at £449 offering you super high definition, better internet connections, and less false activations.
We first used the basic model £89 when it was first released and found it would go off randomly and sometimes not activate when out and about. The pro and elite versions were very responsive, and the image quality was a much more significant improvement from the basic two models!
- Video Doorbell – Basic £89
- Video Doorbell 2 £149
- Pro Version £ 199
- Elite Version £ 449
If you are prepared to spend the money, then we would advise you to invest in the more expensive models because they are more reliable compared to the more basic models. Although expensive, the elite and pro versions will need an installer due to being hardwired into your wi-fi device!
- Cloud storage
- Never miss a call
- Very sensitive motion recording
- Easy to use phone application
The Ring doorbell will help you have a two-way call with anyone who rings the bell, you receive a notification on your phone, and your voice is loud enough to hear. If the sensor is activated it records immediately and you can also speak through the doorbell if your out or even at home.
Maybe you’re in the bath or on the toilet and not able to get to the door! We found this device was great for smaller matters and inconveniences, but should never be relied upon as a single deterrent to all criminal activity on your property!
- Expensive devices for all the benefits advertised
- Intermittent responses received from the cheaper models
- low-quality image especially from the basic designs
- Easily removed/stolen
You are required to subscribe to the Ring network so you can watch old footage and continue to use the device to its full potential! Is this a catch not mentioned in the adverts? Yes, we believe there should be a limited free subscription or basic package when you purchase your Ring doorbell!
- £2.50 a month
- £25 a year
Although this is not expensive, we were surprised at this subscription because it would be simple to have the app save any recordings to your phone drive and deleted every 30 days if storage was as an issue! Using the Ring cloud was secure, and you have many settings once subscribed and setup.
Ring Customer Doorbell Reviews
“After using the basic Ring Doorbell model but had to change their series 2 version because I would get false signals and sometimes return home to find a delivery note. The basic model lacking in specifications and did not fit on my door frame.
Because of these issues, I would recommend you to buy better models. Once the new device was installed and set up, it was a perfect experience and never missed the bell again! Although I did receive a full refund from Ring because of my complaint.”
“I found the Ring Doorbell to be buggy and decided to turn on at will! I tested the device many times and found it would not activate when rung! But, the worst part was the activations late at night when no one was around! I had to send the first medal back to the suppliers because it was not very reliable! Martin, the UK my review.”
The Ring Technology
- Two-way conversations
- Motion sensor (5 meters radius)
- 1A battery required (Lithium Ion)
- Aluminum Casing
- Various colours
- Wireless & hard wired
- Wide angle of view
To fully receive the benefits of the Ring doorbell you have to buy the elite or pro versions. We found the basic models to be bulky, low in resolution and intermittent even when home!
The doorbell works well with other security devices BUT should not be used a single-use deterrent to criminals! Home Spy’s advise to our readers is to have two or three security devises on your property to make sure you deter any criminal activity and avoid any malfunctions.
Our review of Ring is positive for “ONLY” the more expensive models; we believe it may help protect your property to an extent! The cheaper models are much bulkier and less sophisticated compared to the more advanced options. They offer a much better resolution, app, and notification system.
